Quarenghi Giacomo Antonio
Quarenghi Giacomo Antonio 20.09.1744-02.03.1817 Italian architect, worked in Russia from 1780 onwards. One of the founders of Russian Classicism in architecture. Among his works are buildings of the Hermitage Theatre, Academy of Sciences, Fund Allocation Bank, Smolny Institute, Alexander Palace in Tsarskoye Selo, English Palace in Peterhof, and others. Quarenghi's grave in the Volkovskoye German cemetery was regarded as lost but in 1967 his remains were found during archeological digging and reinterred in the museum's necropolis.
